Golden ICTEM The Institute of Clinical Sciences (ICS) has three divisions, Molecular Sciences, Imaging Sciences and Clinical Research, and is itself one of five departments within the Faculty of Medicine. The MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) 200 staff form a significant part of the ICS.

The relationship between the ICS and the LMS allows for an effective interface between the fundamental research undertaken at the LMS and the established translational and clinical infrastructure at Imperial College London. The MRC and Imperial College London work together through the ICS to ensure that fundamental discoveries can be quickly and appropriately exploited for new clinical insights.

Together, the MRC and Imperial College London have created an innovative portfolio of training programmes at the ICS which provide opportunities for non-clinical and clinical scientists across the medical sciences, as well as cross-disciplinary opportunities offered in partnership with colleagues in the Faculties of Natural Sciences and Engineering.

The Faculty of Medicine is one of Europe’s largest medical institutions in terms of its staff and student population and research income. It has an Academic Health Sciences Centre in partnership with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, the thriving NIHR Imperial BRC, and the NIHR Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit  at the Brompton Hospital, as well as partnerships with the MRC's Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge and the Francis Crick Institute in London.
