What MERU can do for youYou may already be actively engaged in education research with a project that you would like to do, but frustrated by a lack of manpower, time or money.  If you have a great idea and just need a small amount of money to get it off the ground, MERU may be able to help. We launch a competitive small awards scheme, exclusively for MERU members, on an annual basis to provide seed corn funding for education research projects. Please see the ‘Funding support’ section below for further information..

If a lack of man- and woman-power is your problem, then why not register your project on ProjectPal?  There may well be someone out there who is keen to help you. A lot of our members are current Imperial students who are keen to get involved in a research project and who would jump at the opportunity to contribute in this way.  You can find more details on the ProjectPal website.

Perhaps you are a current Imperial student who wants to get involved in some education research but doesn’t know where to begin. You can also register at ProjectPal and look for opportunities.

Finally, perhaps you have an interesting idea for a project that you would like to explore but have never done any education research before and you’re not sure where to begin, especially if your work might involve qualitative studies, which can seem very alien to those of trained in biological or clinical sciences. Email MERU at (meru@imperial.ac.uk) and we will try and put you in touch with someone who will be able and willing to help.  Alternatively, you could come to a MERU Meeting. MERU meets monthly during term time. Meetings vary from current education research studies, “surgeries” when people bring their research ideas and get advice and support on putting them into practice, or meetings on teaching delivery aimed at helping all of us become better at teaching.

MERU is open to Imperial staff and students and MERU members will automatically be added to the mailing list.

Funding support

We currently have a small amount of funding to support educational research activities. If you have a project which might benefit, please submit the small grant application form. Call for applications is now open, and the deadline to apply is 17:00, Monday 23 October.

MERU offers travel grants for attendance at clearly education-based meetings and conferences. Any MERU member can apply, but priority will be given to applicants who have abstracts accepted for presentation. The call for travel grants will open soon, and deadline information will be added at this time.
