Glycosciences laboratory

Elucidating carbohydrate recognition systems of biological and medical importance

The Glycosciences Laboratory, directed by Professor Ten Feizi, is located at the Hammersmith Campus on the fifth floor of the Burlington Danes building. We are a team with expertise in glycobiology, immunochemistry, chemistry, mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR).

Our mission is the elucidation of carbohydrate recognition systems of biological and medical importance. Our speciality is the discovery of oligosaccharide (glycan) ligands for proteins involved in innate and acquired immunity and pathogen-host interactions, also the characterization of developmentally-regulated and cancer associated antigens.

We have a library of carbohydrate materials that is currently one of the largest and most diverse in the world and a state-of-the-art carbohydrate microarray facility with a mass spectrometry laboratory established with support from Wellcome Trust. We offer microarray screening analyses for carbohydrate-binding proteins and follow-on collaborations to the broad scientific community.
