Academic women by department
Following receiving a SWAN silver award, in 2007 the Academic Opportunities Committee (AOC) established Faculty Ambassadors to Academic Women in order to sustain and make greater progress. Having received top level commitment and engagement the main purpose of these roles is to organise and collaborate with the Principals and Deputy Principals on annual events and activities for women in the Faculties. This initiative is designed to place greater emphasis on support to female staff, leading to greater retention of our excellent staff. The Faculty of Natural Sciences Ambassador to Academic Women is Karen Makuch and she, together with a committee made up of representatives from each of the departments in the Faculty, are discussing the issues around recruitment, retention and promotion of academic women in the Faculty.
