A happy Healthy Living Week

Healthy Living Week 2015 was a huge success with thousands of students and staff coming along for a session or a health check.

A rousing Spin and Core session on a Monday morning kicked off an action-packed Healthy Living Week. Led by the active Lifestyles Team, over 2100 Imperial staff and students attended the wide variety of sessions on offer.

Organised by Giovanni White of the Active Lifestyles Team, there was a good balance of group classes – some regular, others new and exclusive to the week – games sessions, a squash tournament, seminars and health and fitness assessments.

The classes drew large crowds, with the exclusive classes proving exceptionally popular, including Jumping Fit, Insanity the Costwolds-led climbing wall expo and Learning to Swim for adults with FastFins. Prizes and T-shirts were given away throughout the week to our dedicated members – with some students and staff attending over 15 sessions in just five days!

This was a huge campus-wide collaboration, with teams in Campus Services, the Library, Charing Cross and Occupational Health promoting and offering services. The Active Lifestyles team is exceptionally thankful to these teams as well all the external instructors, personal trainers and therapists who helped to make this week.

Particular thanks must go to Wheyhey Iceream our sponsor for Healthy Living Week which ensured that every event on offer was free to attend. Their nutritional seminar was one of the week’s highlights – in part due to the free samples of their protein ice cream! If you missed out on trying some, it is now sold at Ethos reception.

We’re hoping to make the event next year even bigger!  If you have any suggestions or feedback you would like to share, please email the team at actlife@imperial.ac.uk

Be sure to keep up all the good work by joining a GoFit team and keep an eye out for Fitness Fun Day coming in June 2015.
