DoC Researchers invited to the WEF Annual Meeting of the New Champions

Dr Ben Glocker joins World Economic Forum Young Scientists Community

Dr Ben Glocker, Lecturer in the Department of Computing, has been selected to become a member of the World Economic Forum's Young Scientists community. He is now the second DoC academic to enter this prestigious community. Dr Bjoern Schuller, Reader in the Department, has was selected tojoin to the community last year and has been selected again this year too. Together with Dr Stamatia Giannarou, Research Fellow in the Department, they will join this year's WEF Annual Meeting of the New Champions in Tianjin (China) in June and present their research to global leaders from industry, governments, media, and academia from over 90 countries.

The Young Scientists community brings together the most forward-thinking and advanced young scientific minds in the world. They are selected from all regions and a wide range of disciplines, and have a track record of advancing the frontiers of science, technology and environment in areas of high societal impact. In their work, they exhibit exceptional creativity, thought leadership and high growth potential. Under the age of 40, these individuals have demonstrated their commitment to public service and actively play a transformational role in integrating scientific knowledge into society for the public good.

The Young Scientists are honoured for their contributions to advancing the frontiers of science, engineering and technology, and benefit from a tailored programme that expose them to policy leaders, decision-makers and entrepreneurs. The World Economic Forum offers them continuous support through its academic and expert networks as well as engagement opportunities with its projects and initiatives."
