Pavel Hrmo wins a Prize at the Physics Departments PGR Symposium.
Congratulations to Pavel Hrmo who won a Prize for his Poster entitled 'Coherent Manipulation of a Single Sideband Cooled Ion in a Penning Trap' at the Physics Departments Postgraduate Research Symposium (PGR) held at Imperial College London in June 2016.
Pavel says:
"The poster summarizes the results we have obtained building on the first successful demonstration of sideband cooling of a single ion in a Penning trap. We show how a using a particular set of laser pulses, we can extend the coherence time of our qubit by a technique known as Uhrig dynamical decoupling. These results, coupled with the demonstration of a very low (sub phonon) heating rate highlight the potential of using a Penning trap in applications such as Quantum Simulation."
The PGR Research Symposium Day was an opportunity for PhD students to show case the world leading research that is being carried out within the Physics Department to internal and external members of College and, to celebrate the thriving post graduate research community.
