Warming up

Thursday 15 June saw the first Imperial Campus Relay take place on the South Kensington Campus.

On Thursday 15 June Sport Imperial hosted the first Imperial Campus Relay. Starting at the Queen's Tower participants prepared to run, jog or walk a mile around the campus, returning to the start to handover their chip to their next teammate.

Over 175 people in 44 teams turned up to take part on one of the hottest days of the year so far! A mass warmup was conducted in front of the Queen’s Tower by Charlotte from the Active Lifestyles Team before the first leg runners made their way to the start line.

Members of the Imperial Cross Country and Athletics club led the way out heading towards Exhibition Road, and running the route towards the Royal Albert Hall. After navigating the steps up to the Hall, participants ran along Kensington Road, before turning onto Queen’s Gate heading back towards campus. After passing 170 runners were cheered on by their teammates as they made their way back to the Queen’s Lawn for the handover.

The fastest time of the day was achieved in a speedy 4 minutes and 54 seconds, whilst the fastest team completed the relay in 20 minutes and 56 seconds. However, the event was a fun run and it was great to see so many people walking and jogging the route with friends and colleagues.
