Li Shen (Tribology group) won the Eureka & Discovery category of a national science photography competition run by the EPSRC.

The winning entry, titled “In a kitchen far, far away…” captures fluid instability patterns on top of a spherical soap bubble in a kitchen sink. The panel of judges chose from over 100 images created by researchers who receive EPSRC funding.

Li’s prizewinning image was taken from his video “Before the bubble ruptures”, which explores in a visually striking manner how soap bubbles evolve and burst. The video won the Gallery award in the American Physical Society's Gallery of Fluid motion competition in 2016.
