Between 28 May and 13 June, the Careers Service is hosting a series of sessions which will help you prepare for a fulfilling career.

Summer is the perfect time to relax, but also to make big plans for your life. This summer term, learn how to make the most out of your CV and cover letter, develop your confidence for interviews and start making plans for your life after graduation. These sessions are targeted at penultimate and final-year undergraduate students, as well as MSc students.

Career Planning Before Your Final Year (penultimate-year undergraduate students)

TUESDAY 28 MAY, 15:00 – 15:55

Ideal for students in their penultimate year, this session will look at how to make the most of your time left at university. Next year will be busy so let’s start to think strategically about how you can assess what activities to commit to and maximise the value of these for your long term plans.

Graduating with no plans - ideas of what to do next (final-year students)

TUESDAY 28 MAY, 16:00 – 16:55

Ideal for final year students. With the end of your studies in sight, it can be a scary and stressful time if you haven't made any plans or secured a job or further study course. This session will help you evaluate your options and formulate an action plan. We'll take proactive steps to uncover opportunities, develop your skills and build confidence in making direct approaches to potential employers.

Finding Summer Work Experience

Wednesday 29 MAY, 13:00 – 13:55

Monday 10 June, 12:00 – 12:55

Want to make the most of this summer in terms of building your CV but not quite sure what to do or how to do it? This session will help you figure out the best way to build experience and find opportunities to kick start your career.

**Please note this session is aimed at any student who is continuing their degree next year.**

Disability: Finding Inclusive Employers

Wednesday 29 MAY, 14:00 – 14:55

This workshop will be looking at the following:

  • Assessing whether an employer is inclusive
  • Disclosing disability
  • Asking for any adjustments in the recruitment process/workplace
  • Access to Work funding
  • Further support & resources

The session is for anyone with a disability, including specific learning difficulties (such as dyslexia and dyspraxia), mental health or any other long term health condition.

CVs in depth

Tuesday 4 June, 14:00 - 14:55

Is your CV as refined and as tailored as you can make it for every opportunity? This session will give practical advice on how to construct effective CVs for a wide range of career opportunities with an introduction to tailoring your CV.

Interviews - how to succeed

Wednesday 5 June, 13:00 - 13:55

Thursday 6 June, 14:00 - 14:55

Answer the following questions: “Tell me about yourself”; “Why do you want this role?”; “Describe your approach to a recent project”; “What’s your biggest weakness?”; “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?”

Interviews are a part of life and they can be pretty tough! This session will help you prepare for and perform well in interviews whether they take place face-to-face, by phone or in video format.

Mock Assessment Centre with GSK & TBC

Friday 7 June, 13:00 - 17:00

As part of the summer programme, the Careers Service is teaming up with employers to run a mock assessment centre for Imperial students. 

Throughout the afternoon you will experience a range of assessment tasks and activities, each run by one of our partner employers. As well as building your awareness of the challenges of assessment centre tasks, it will help you develop your self-awareness of your group-work skills.

Please note that your attendance is required throughout the afternoon through the series of activities and that the event location (on our South Kensington campus) will be emailed to you the day before the event.
