2020 Small Call winners announced

Earlier this year the Centre for Systems Engineering and Innovation announced seed-funding for feasibility studies (£5-10k) to encourage research that uses a systems approach to cities and infrastructure and/or to the transformation of construction.

At a time when we are experiencing systems shock, the small projects were encouraged to focus on the following themes and topics:

  • Anti-fragility in civil infrastructures that support society
    Stable and robust infrastructures for a resilient society
  • Circular economy and sustainable manufacturing for construction
  • Innovation ecosystems for digital and/or low carbon solutions
  • Innovation and transition pathways (e.g. new forms of transport or future cities)

Potential applicant’s were then invited to attend our feasibility study workshop, 20 April 2020. Attended by industry and CSEI associated faculty the workshop helped shape feasibility studies to CSEI vision, aims and industry priorities.  

Proposals were be ranked in relation to their scope/objectives, methods/work-plan, potential industry impact, added value, overall costs and follow-on plans.

Title of project: Identifying eco-innovation in the building retrofit sector using Patent mining and analysis
