Imperial College London’s Professor Bruno Clerckx has been awarded the Blondel Medal 2021 and elevated to Fellow of the IEEE.

For his contributions to multi-antenna communication systems and wireless power transmission systems, Professor Clerckx has received the Blondel Medal, which is awarded each year in France by the French Association of Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Information Technology and Communication (SEE).

I am delighted to receive this double award and honoured to be part of such a select and distinguished group of researchers and engineers. Professor Bruno Clerckx Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering

Among the most prestigious awards in the field, the Medal honours one university or industrial scientist per year for exceptional work in the field of science and electrical and electronic industries. It was awarded to Professor Clerckx on 13 December 2021.

Bruno Clerckx is Professor of Wireless Communications and Signal Processing at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He is Head of the Wireless Communications and Signal Processing Lab, and the Deputy Head of the Communications and Signal Processing Group at Imperial.

His work focuses on developing mathematical models and signal processing algorithms to understand how to make the best use of radio waves in various wireless systems such as communications, power transmission, and sensing.

Professor Clerckx has also been elevated to Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). IEEE Fellowship is a distinction reserved for select members of the IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Fellowship is awarded to members whose extraordinary accomplishments in progressing electrics and electronics are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation.

Professor Clerckx said: “I am delighted to receive this double award and honoured to be part of such a select and distinguished group of researchers and engineers. I am also grateful to my mentors, professors, students, postdocs, collaborators, and colleagues all around the world for their support and thankful to all researchers who have shown interest in my work.”
