Ortega R, Astolfi A, Hsu L, 2003, Immersion and invariance model reference adaptive control: New parameterizations for the problem, Pages: 3239-3243, ISSN: 0743-1546
In a series of recent papers the authors have introduced a novel approach to adaptive control exploiting the geometric ideas of system immersion and manifold invariance. A unique feature of this framework is that it allows to treat in a unified manner the problems of state and parameter estimation. In this brief paper we revisit the classical model reference adaptive control from the immersion and invariance perspective and provide new parameterizations (in terms of the unknown state) to the problem. This radically new viewpoint yields very simple schemes with a clear stabilization mechanism that, in contrast with the classical solutions, does not rely on slow parameter adaptation - induced by the introduction of signal normalization.
Lazar M, Astolfi A, 2003, Global predictive regulation of a class of nonlinear cascaded systems with bounded input, Pages: 493-498, ISSN: 1474-6670
A predictive control algorithm globally asymptotically stabilizing a class of input-saturated nonlinear cascaded systems is presented. The developed predictive control law, which is calculated off-line as an unconstrained direct state feedback using a discrete-time linear model, is applied to the plant by means of an iterative procedure. In this way, closed-loop stability is guaranteed without increasing the computational complexity and the input constraints can be handled using projection. Moreover, the computational complexity does not depend on the length of the prediction horizon and therefore stability and regulating performance are achieved with a reduced computational burden. Finally, an example is given for illustration purposes.

Prat S, Astolfi A, 2002, Local static output feedback stabilization of a class of minimum-phase nonlinear systems, Pages: 233-238, ISSN: 1474-6670
The problem of (local) static output feedback stabilization for a class of minimum phase relative degree two systems is studied. It is shown that, under natural assumptions, it is possible to design a stabilizing static output feedback control law and to give an estimate of the resulting region of attraction. The general results are illustrated via examples.
