Summary

Overview

  • Flow at high Reynolds number
  • Boundary layers
  • Transition to turbulence
  • Nonlinear stability theory
  • Vortex-wave interactions
  • Thread-annular flow

My research concentrates on the study of the linear and nonlinear stablilty of fluid flows, particularly at high Reynolds number, and the conditions under which such flows undergo transition to turbulence. Some of the work is purely analytic - an example being a proof of the non-existence of solution to a set of vortex-wave interaction equations, while on the numerical side there is the development of efficient algorithms for solving the nonlinear systems that arise from the asymptotic modelling. I have a particular interest in the axial flow between concentric (or eccentric) circular cylinders, which has applications to minimally invasive surgery and to oil pipelines.
