I am a PhD student in Nina Thornhill's Process Automation Group and the Centre for Process Systems Engineering (PSE) in the Department of Chemical Engineering.
My research is in "Fault propagation, detection, and analysis in process systems" and my current efforts are in and around what are called structural digraphs and Bayesian (statistical) networks so as to model connectivity, causality and inference. The aim is to find ways to figure out what disturbance or fault events might have caused or contributed to any untoward effects that propagate around a process plant and hence disrupt its safe and economic operation.

I was born and brought up in Rawmarsh in South Yorkshire, and went to Wath-Upon-Dearne Comprehensive School.
Before I went to Dundee University I was an apprentice at British Steel Rotherham and since I graduated I have been fortunate to work in the automotive, aerospace, chemical and nuclear sectors and pursue my interests in chemistry, maths and physics, control, data analysis, modelling & simulation, optimization, and software development. I develop code in C, Fortran, GAMS, Matlab/Simulink, Python, R, VBA.
I'm married to Katy, and we live in Cambridgeshire.
