Summary

I am a Frontier in Quantum Technology (FQT) student working with Prof. Edward A Hinds on atom interferometry. My project has two parts: first, to develop an atom interferometry for applications to practical problems such as navigation, oil/mineral prospecting and sensing. A lot of organizations, not least the military and oil companies, are very interested in this. Second, we have some exciting ideas for attempting to detect dark energy candidates using atom interferometry. We attempt this through the narrowing down of the parameter space created by the strength of the self-interaction of the field with itself and the strength of the coupling between the Chameleon scalar field and matter; this is the main focus of my research.
