Summary

Francisca is a Research Associate at the Sustainable Gas Institute. She completed her PhD in the Chemical Engineering Department at Imperial College London, developing a spatially-resolved energy systems model to study heat decarbonisation pathways in the UK.  

Her research interests focus on developing spatially-resolved energy systems models through optimisation methods, and studying trade-offs between different components of energy systems such as supply, network infrastructure, and end-use technologies. She is interested in how energy systems models can be used to inform policies and energy strategies towards decarbonisation.   

She has worked in projects in the UK, Brazil, and Chile, related to decarbonisation pathways for heating, cooling, and transport demands; studying the role of hydrogen for decarbonising heat; assessing parthways for deploying hydrogen for transport infrastructure; and estimating regional bioenergy potentials, among others.   

Francisca is a Mechanical Engineer, MSc. in Mechanical Engineering, and MSc. in Sustainable Energy Futures.
