Summary

Power system economics - EE4-51

Role

Course Leader

Sustainable electrical systems - EE4-50

Aims

This course reviews the motivating factors and aspirations for changing electricity systems to a more sustainable form. From this base, the challenges posed for planning and operating a system with a changed generation mix are described and analysed. To support this, the features of the key renewable and low carbon energy technologies are introduced.

Role

Course Leader

Electrical Energy Systems - EE3-13

Role

Course Leader

Energy Transmission and Storage - SEF08

Aims

To introduce the transmission network issues towards large scale integration of wind power

• To provide a vision for future distributed energy systems

• To explain power flow analysis and its role in planning and operational studies of electric power transmission system

• To provide an overview of the high voltage direct current transmission (HVDC) and flexible AC transmission systems (FACTS) technologies

• To explain the principles and describe the design and operation of batteries

• To provide an overview of the hydrogen transmission and storage infrastructure

• To explain the role of gas in a low carbon future
