Research Interests:

  • Direct impacts of aerosol on the Earth's radiation budget
  • The role of Saharan dust in the global climate system
  • Diagnosing climate impacts and feedbacks due to greenhouse gases and aerosol using spectrally resolved ground-based, in situ and satellite observations
  • Atmospheric impacts on the potential for solar energy generation from the desert 

Current Projects:

  • PI (Collaborative Research Grant) - Quantifying the radiative impact of dust aerosol over the Arabian Peninsula and the Red Sea and its implications for local, regional and global climate
  • PI (NERC Consortium) - Fennec: The Saharan Heat Low
  • PI (NERC joint grant): Do-4-Models: Improving the representation of dust uplift in regional climate models
  • Co-I (NERC Standard Grant): CLARREO: A new opportunity for climate monitoring from space
