Summary

Overview

This webpage summarises the research activities of my group. Our main research involves the application of fluid mechanics and continuum mechanics to understanding biomedical problems. The general approach is to simplify and idealise the problem to make it possible to solve analytically or semi-analytically. This increases our fundamental understanding of the problem, and leads to new insight into key areas of physiology and medicine.

Areas of application

show research

Areas of current research interest include mathematical modelling of the following phenomena:

  • Fluid flow and mass transport in the eye
  • Blood flow and mass transport in the microcirculation of the liver
  • Blood flow in the arteries, including arterial curvature, compliance, wave intensity analysis, pathological conditions
  • Devices to measure arterial blood pressure
  • Propagation of electrical signals in the myocardium
  • Behaviour of electrochemical sensors
