Jonathan Underwood is an infectious diseases and general medicine consultant working at the University Hospital of Wales. He completed a PhD under the supervision of Prof. Alan Winston and Dr. Robert Leech. His main research interest is understanding neurological sequelae of infections particularly the pathogenesis of cognitive impairment in treated HIV-disease and investigating the potential aetiological role of antiretroviral central nervous system toxicity. Primarily using advanced neuroimaging he collaborates with the Computational, Cognitive and Clinical Neuroimaging Laboratory (C3NL) based at Hammersmith Hospital.

Jonathan has recently been awarded an MRC-NIHR Clinical Academic Research Partnership grant to study blood-brain barrier dysfunction and cognitive outcomes following bloodstream infection.
