Overview
My research focuses on structural characterisation of proteins and protein complexes involved in upstream regulation of the (m)TORC1 kinase.
To study these large and often very heterogeneous proteins and complexes, we use single-particle cryo-electron microscopy in combination with functional biochemical and biophysical methods.
Recently, we have determined the architecture of the tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) protein complex; a new step in understanding the enigmatic activity of this critical mTORC1 regulator.
The group of Dr Aylett is also actively involved in developing computational and experimental tools for wider use by the cryo-EM community.
