HOWE PS, STELLE KS, TOWNSEND PK, 1981, The vanishing volume of N = 1 superspace, Physics Letters B: Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics, Vol: 107, Pages: 420-424, ISSN: 0370-2693
We show that the supergeometry of the new minimal formulation of N = 1 supergravity is a limiting case of the non-minimal supergeometry for which the volume of superspace vanishes. The action for supergravity in this case is then no longer the superdeterminant of the vielbein but is analogous to a special form of the Fayet-Iliopoulos term allowed only for the new minimal supergeometry. We discuss the restrictions on matter couplings imposed by the new and non-minimal supergeometries.

DESER S, KAY JH, STELLE KS, 1977, Renormalizability properties of supergravity, Physical Review Letters, Vol: 38, Pages: 527-530, ISSN: 0031-9007
The possible local counterterms in supergravity are investigated to all loop orders. Supersymmetry implies that (1) supergravity-matter coupling is one-loop nonrenormalizable, with a specific counterterm; (2) pure supergravity is renormalizable at both one and two loops; (3) it fails at three loops; (4) extended supergravity models may avoid the three-loop catastrophe, and have no dangerous local counterterms to any order. In that case, the nonleading divergences could be removed by field redefinitions, which would establish renormalizability for these systems.
