Summary

Scope & Approach

Osteoarthritis is one of the leading causes for early disability worldwide. For many, the thought of osteoarthritis not only means severe pain and inability to maintain health and fitness goals, but also translates into the loss of productivity and income; as well as more money spent on medication and rehabilitation. Collectively, this incurs an economic burden towards implant and reconstruction procedures, which continue to be an escalating, yet, preventable concern. Research interests and areas include:

  • Hip morphology, injury, and osteoarthritis
  • Joint preservation strategies and early surgical interventions
  • Soft tissue capsular mechanics and muscle loading
  • Spinopelvic alignment and stability
  • Musculoskeletal health and predictive injury modelling
  • Implant design, surgical approach, reconstruction parameters

In efforts to avoid early musculoskeletal dysfunction and osteoarthritis, Geoffrey continually aims to improve early RECOGNITION, CHARACTERISATION, and TREATMENT strategies for the disease processes, through various approaches:

  • IN VIVO -- diagnostic imaging, motion analysis, performance metrics
  • IN SILICO -- computational musculoskeletal and finite element modelling
  • IN VITRO -- anatomical examinations and cadaveric simulations
