Summary

Plated Structures - CIVE70103

Aims

This module addresses the behaviour and design of plated steel structures. The underling theory of plates, with an emphasis on plate bending and plate buckling and postbuckling is covered. The efficient design of plated structures, including stiffened box girders, plate girders and cold-formed steel sections is presented.

Course Leader

Steel Components - CIVE70097

Aims

This module covers the behaviour and design of steel structures, focussing on the link between the underlying structural mechanics, the characterisitcs of the employed material and the provisions of modern structural design codes, with an emphasis on Eurocode 3. The response and design of individual members and connections are covered, as well as the global behaviour of structures, whether these be new-build or retrofitted, and the importance of appropriate selection and efficient use of material.
