Chausov DV, Antipov OL, Damzen MJ, 2002, Influence of phase nonreciprocity on self-starting oscillator with cavity formed by population grating, Pages: 5-6

Influence of phase nonreciprocity on self-starting oscillator with cavity formed by population grating was discussed. The results showed that generation threshold, energy of generated pulses and average power depend on the cavity phase nonreciprocity. The generation threshold can be decreased and generation power can be increased by use of the π/2 phase nonreciprocity.

Omatsu T, Thompson BA, Minassian A, Damzen MJet al., 2002, 150-times phase conjugation by degenerate four-wave-mixing in a continuous-wave Nd:YVO<inf>4</inf> amplifier, Pages: 207-208

Phase conjugate reflectivity of 150-times was obtained using degenerate four-wave-mixing from a continuous wave diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 slab amplifier. A commercial single-longitudnal mode Nd:YVO4 laser was used as the source for probe and all the beams were focussed loosely inside the amplifier. The polarization of pump diode was parallel with the c-axis of the Nd:YVO4 crystal. A maximum phase conjugate reflectivity of 150 was obtained for single-pass gain observed by probe beam of ∼10,000, and peak reflectivity occurred around the pump intensity of ∼0.003Is.

Omatsu T, Minassian A, Damzen MJ, 2002, High quality 7.5 watt output from a CW Nd:YVO<inf>4</inf> photorefractive phase conjugate resonator, Pages: 206-207

Continuous-wave (CW) operation of a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 phase conjugate resonator, which was based on a Rh:BaTiO3 phase conjugate mirror, was demonstrated. The pump CW single-bar diode array was line-focused onto the Nd:YVO4 crystal. The polarization of pump diode was parallel with the c-axis of the Nd:YVO4 crystal. A 7.5 W output with high beam quality was obtained.

Lam SY, Damzen MJ, 2002, Performance of self-adaptive Nd:YLF laser resonators, Pages: 288-289

Performance of self-adaptive Nd:YLF laser resonators was discussed. Two self-adaptive configurations, the coupled cavity and the self starting loop cavity were investigated. The small signal gain of amplifiers G1 and G2 were 35 and 300 respectively. Pumping G1 with a higher voltage to increase its small signal gain to 300, produced a multiple Q-switched output of 0.5J.

Laser oscillation of a diode-pumped Nd:YVO4 phase conjugate resonator with a photorefractive ring phase conjugate mirror has been demonstrated. A 7.5 W continuous-wave (CW) output with high beam quality was obtained. Slope efficiency of 46% and optical extraction efficiency of 33% were achieved. Standard variance of the output power fluctuation was 2.3%.

Hillier DI, Hendricks JM, Barrington SJ, Shepherd DP, Eason RW, Damzen MJ, Minassian A, Thompson Bet al., 2002, Power-scaling continuous-wave adaptive laser resonators, Pages: 3-4

The power-scaling of continuous-wave adaptive laser resonator which operated at 6 W was discussed. The maximum output of ∼6W from the resonator occurred for an input power of ∼20 mW. Results showed that the seed input for maximum output occurred at ∼4.3 mW giving a total output power of 11.4 W.

Thompson BA, Minassian A, Damzen MJ, Hendricks JM, Hillier DI, Barrington SJ, Shepherd DP, Eason RWet al., 2002, Efficient adaptive self-starting Nd:YVO<inf>4</inf> gain grating laser oscillator, Pages: 287-288

Efficient adaptive self-starting Nd:YVO4 gain grating laser oscillator was presented. A non-reciprocal transmission element (NRTE) optimized the operation of the system and ensured unidirectional oscillation in the clockwise direction. The oscillator output was SLM operation near threshold, and multimode at higher powers with a bandwidth of ∼500 MHz.

Damzen MJ, Trew M, Crofts GI, Bermudez Jet al., 2001, High efficiency, continuous-wave ND:YVO<inf>4</inf> grazing-incidence lasers with linear and ring cavities

Grazing incidence amplifier geometry and diode-side-pumping operating in a fully continuous-wave (CW) regime were used to describe the operation of neodymium laser configurations. The geometry offered the power scalability of side-pumping and the grazing incidence amplifier allowed the potential for high quality extractions. The laser mode experienced the very high gain at the pump face by utilizing a grazing-incidence and total internal reflection (TIR). TIR provided spatial averaging of the gain non-uniformity caused by the exponential absorption of the pump radiation.
