Summary

Myungshik works on 1) developments of quantum simulations and quantum computing and 2) tests of fundamental physics using quantum devices. He has been at various places including Sogang University, Essex University, Max-Planck Institute for Quantum Optics and Queen's University Belfast. Now he is back at Imperial College London where he did his PhD.

He is proud of his master's degree in business administration not necessarily because it is useful though.

He was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2009.

Alumni of his group include Jinhyoung Lee (Professor, Hanyang University), Hyunseok (Jacob) Jeong (Professor, Seoul National University: 2004 IoP QEP thesis prize winner), Mauro Paternostro (Professor, Queen's University Belfast), Wonmin Son (Sogang University), Mark Tame (Professor, Stellenbosch University; IoP QEP PhD prize runner up), Carlo Di Franco, Daniel Ballester, Petr Marek (Professor, Palacky University; 2010 Votruba thesis prize winner), Elinor Irish (University of Southampton), Sean Springer (Royal Belfast Academical Institute), Marco Genoni (Professor, University of Milan), Tommaso Tufarelli (Lecturer, University of Nottingham), Leonardo Banchi (Professor, University of Florence), Vivishek Sudhir (Professor, MIT), Ebyung Park, Chris Ogden, Vignesh Venkataraman, Luca Rigovacca (McKinsey), Federico Armata (Data Scientist, Expedia Group), Doug Plato (University of Rostock), Benjamin Yadin (University of Siegen), Alex Page (Marshall and Wace, 2021 Blackett PhD Thesis Prize winner), Hyukjoon Kwon (Professor, Korea Institute for Advanced Study; 2020 Imperial teaching award winner), Tobias Haug (Professor, TII, Abu Dhabi), Alistair Smith (Machine Learning Engineer, Ampsight: Imperial College Industry Club PhD thesis prize winner, 2024), Chris Self (Quantinuum), Minjae Jo (JP Morgan, London), Kiran Khosla (Squarepoint Capital) and Hadrien Chevalier.

Some of them have been adventurous to go to bio/socio informatics research: Helen McAneny (Queen's University Belfast) and Derek Wilson (European Bioinformatics Institute).

He belongs to the Quantum Information Theory Group at Imperial College (webpage here).

He is involved in the Centre for Doctoral Training in Controlled Quantum Dynamics (webpage here).
