Mary Lavelle is a Research Fellow in Patient Safety at the Patient Safety and Translational Research Centre at Imperial College. She joined Imperial in 2017 after completing a Postdoctoral position at the Institute for Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience and a Research Fellow position at the Centre for Applied Resilience in Healthcare, King's College London. Mary was awarded her PhD in 'social interaction in schizophrenia' from the Cognitive Science Research Group at Queen Mary University of London in 2012.
The overarching aim of Mary's research is to investigate the complex dynamics of social interaction, both in clinical teams where effective communication is critical to patient safety and in patient populations marked by social impairment.
Mary's current research at Imperial focuses on organisational resilience and teamwork in acute and mental health settings, with the aim of developing targeted interventions to improve patient safety across these clinical areas.
