Summary

Professor Stephen Glaister is Professor of Transport and Infrastructure in the Centre for Transport Studies at Imperial College London.

He has specialised in the economics of transport with a concentration on economic regulation and deregulation. He was a member of the Government's first Advisory Committee on Trunk Road Assessment and he has been Specialist Advisor to the Parliamentary Select Committee on Transport. He acted as advisor to the Department of Transport on bus deregulation. He was a non-executive director of London Regional Transport from 1984 until 1993. He was an Economic Advisor to the Rail Regulator and to the Gas Regulator.

In 1998 he was awarded the CBE for services to public transport. He has developed models for the Department for the cost benefit assessment of urban public transport subsidies. He has also worked on urban transport evaluation for the World Bank. 

He is a member of the London First Transport Initiative and a Board Member of Transport for London. He was a member of the Steering Group of the Department's Road Pricing Feasibility Study and has extensive experience of providing high-level technical and policy advice to the Department, including as a contributor to the Eddington Review.

He is a past Managing Editor of the Journal of Transport Economics and Policy. He has published widely on transport and also on regulation in the telecommunications, water and gas industries.
