Recently we showed that a simple model of network rewiring could be solved exactly for any time and any parameter value. We also showed that this model can be recast in terms of several well known models of statistical physics such as Urn model and the Voter model. We also noted that it has been applied to a wide range of problems. Here we consider various generalisations of this model and include some new exact results.

Evolving networks with a constant number of edges may be modelled using a rewiring process. These models are used to describe manyreal-world processes including the evolution of cultural artifactssuch as family names, the evolution of gene variations, and thepopularity of strategies in simple econophysics models such as the minority game. The model is closely related to Urn models used forglasses, quantum gravity and wealth distributions. The full meanfield equation for the degree distribution is found and its exactsolution and generating solution are given.

Evans TS, Hunt E, Knappett C, Rivers RJet al., 2007, Modelling Cultural Dynamics: A Macroscopic Approach To Cultural Transmission In The Prehistoric Aegean

In this paper we pursue a novel transdisciplinary approach to the question of cultural dynamics, focussing particularly on the transmission of cultural traits across socio-physical space. In order to think through some of the themes involved we take as a case study an inter-regional phenomenon known as �Minoanisation� (Wiener 1990; Broodbank 2004). This term describes a set of processes observed in the prehistoric Aegean (specifically the Middle and early Late Bronze Age) whereby �Minoan� cultural traits find themselves transmitted beyond the Minoan sphere, i.e. the island of Crete. That is to say, communities in regions such as the Cyclades, the Dodecanese, coastal Asia Minor and the Greek mainland adopt aspects of Cretan culture, both in the form of actual imports from Crete and also local imitations thereof. These cultural elements include pottery shapes and styles, stone vases, loomweights and wall paintings; not only new forms of material culture, but also, presumably, new cultural practices.

We focus on the massive Thirring model in 1+1 dimensions at finite temperature and non-zero chemical potential, and comment on some parallels between this model and QCD. In QCD, calculations of physical quantities such astransport coefficients are extremely difficult. In the massive Thirring model, similar calculations are greatly simplified by exploiting the duality which exists with the sine-Gordon model and its relation, at high temperature, to the exactly solvable classical Coulomb gas on the line.

We consider arbitrary splits of field operators into two parts; psi = psi(+) - psi(-), and use the corresponding definition of normal ordering introduced earlier [T. S. Evans and D. A. Steer, Nucl. Phys. B 474, 481 (1996)]. In this case the normal ordered products and contractions have none of the special symmetry properties assumed in existing proofs of Wick's theorem. Despite this, we prove that Wick's theorem still holds in its usual form as long as the contraction is a c-number. Wick's theorem is thus shown to be much more general than existing derivations suggest, and we discuss possible simplifying applications of this result. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics. Thermal field theory is reviewed briefly. It is noted that, until recently, it was not known what type of real-time Green function is being calculated in the Euclidean approach. The formal answer to this question is then given andthe unexpectedly complicated answer is discussed. The physical implications of the results are then considered.
