Mentoring and Talent Development Schemes
There are various schemes for mentoring and coaching within the Department and College.
For staff on probation there are two levels of support within the Department. Each probationary lecturer is appointed an academic advisor whose role will be to hold an annual meeting with you to review all aspects of your academic progress and help advise on teaching, supervision, research grant applications and visability and complete a probationary review form. Visit the Lecturer Probation page for more information.
In addition, all probationary lecturers will be assigned a teaching buddy – who will sit in on lectures and provide constructive feedback specific to teaching performance.
If you would like to have a mentor outside your own research area or group but within the Department, please contact the Departmental Operations Manager, Luke White, who will approach an appropriate academic or complete the online form.
If you would like to have a mentor outside the Department then the staff development unit can arrange a pairing.
Alternatively if you would like to be mentored because of equality and diversity issues then this can be arranged through the Human Resources Equality and Diversity Unit.
For research staff, the Post Doc Development Centre also have provision to arrange mentoring for post doctoral staff.
The Academic Leadership Programme (ALP) is a 3 day programme organised by the Faculty of Natural Sciences in partnership with the Learning and Development Centre, and is designed to support FoNs staff to become successful leaders in academia.
For all other staff there are various schemes.
The staff development unit (SDU) offers a range of support that can help support talent development including a variety of workshops and leadership training programmes, as well as one to one coaching.
