Face to face with the Dark Side – Science meets Politics

Wednesday 14 December, 5.00-7.00pm, Tamford Street Lecture Theatre, King’s College London (SE1 9NQ)

You are invited to the annual MRC-PHE Researchers’ Society Christmas Gala. This year we are delighted to welcome Dame Prof. Anne Glover, who will be giving her talk entitled “Face to face with the Dark Side – science meets politics. ”

Talk Synopsis: A life in science is all about discovery, analysing and using evidence, dealing with uncertainty and being creative and imaginative to solve problems.  The world of politics is a very different place.  Sometimes evidence is inconvenient as it contradicts political philosophies and uncertainty is to be avoided at any cost.  However, many governments choose to have scientific advisers and in this talk I will describe my experience working in the Brussels bubble as the first Chief Scientific Adviser to President Barosso at the European Commission

Professor Glover is currently Vice-Principal for External Affairs & Dean for Europe at the University of Aberdeen. She served as the first Chief Scientific Adviser to Scotland (2006-2011) and then the first Chief Scientific Adviser to the President of the European Commission (2012-2014).

There will be free festive drinks and nibbles after the talk and an opportunity to network – all are welcome!
