Information For Current Sargent Centre Post Docs

As a Post Doc researcher at the Sargent Centre you have access to TWO Universities and EIGHT Academic Departments. This means you have at your disposal exceptional resources to help you to achieve your academic goals. Each of our Departments has distinguished academics that are experts in their field and are dedicated to advancing knowledge in their subject areas. Your supervisor will provide you with nurturing support and guidance and you can also take advantage of being in this unique interdisciplinary research environment by engaging with other academics, students and fellow researchers at Imperial and UCL and the many Departments that make up the Sargent Centre. Please browse the website to look at their projects and how you can collaborate with them. Ideas are generated by interacting and exchanging thoughts! Please make full use of being in the Sargent Centre!!

Industrial Consortium

Whilst you are in the Sargent Centre, you have the added advantage of being able to interact and network with industrial companies. This unique access to multinational companies is provided through the Centre’s Industrial Consortium. The Centre holds annually an Industrial Consortium Meeting and the event features Poster Session and Recruitment Session. This privileged interaction in the past has led to our researchers doing secondments and gaining employment with our company members. The Industrial Consortium Meetings take place on the first Thursday and Friday in December. It is a requirement for all Sargent Centre members to attend the Industrial Consortium Meetings.

Social and Educational Activities

Throughout your time at the Sargent Centre, we will help you to develop the necessary academic and social skills needed for an enriched lifetime of learning. This includes access to Sargent Centre seminars, conferences, workshops and courses such as: the Introduction to Optimisation Course which provides an introduction to concepts in problem formulation and solution methods for linear, nonlinear and mixed-integer problems. And, the Advanced Optimisation Course which builds on the introductory course and focuses on concepts in global optimisation, bilevel optimisation, dynamic optimisation, optimisation under uncertainty. You will be able to enrol for free to these courses and much more...

Sargent Centre Post Doc Reps

We have three Sargent Centre Post Doc Reps: Dr Sara Giarola and Dr Zoltán Kis from Imperial College and Dr Max Besenhard from UCL. You can contact your Reps about any problems, issues or suggestions that you would like to raise. Max, Sara and Zoltán will represent post doc views to the Sargent Centre Management and provide feedback from the Sargent Centre community. It is essential that you make efforts to communicate issues of concern. This can be positive feedback on aspects which work well (and thus might be shared as good practice) as well as concerns about issues which negatively affect the post doc experience. The Post Doc Reps will also be invited to comment on, and provide input to proposed changes to procedures and will decimate information to their peers. The overall aim is to improve the experience for Sargent Centre researchers.
