New chemistry and chemical engineering databases available on-lineThe Library has subscribed to the Royal Society of Chemistry databases which have become available on BIDS (Bath Information & Data Services). These databases include:
To use any of the BIDS services, you must register and obtain a username and password from either your department library, or on Level 2 of the Central Library - at the Information Desk or the Electronic Information Services Office. You will be given a User Guide on registration. EPSRC advanced and senior fellowships 1997Application forms for advanced and senior fellowships in the fields of science, engineering and technology supported by EPSRC will be available by the end of July. Individuals wishing to apply for either fellowship are invited to contact EPSRC preferably by e-mail (unless this facility is not available) giving full name, postal address and type of fellowship the candidate is applying for. The closing date is 30 September 1996. Central Research Fund Grants 1996-97Applications are invited from members of the University (other than present undergraduate students and those registered for a taught Master's degree) for research grants to assist specific projects of research with the provision of expenses such as special materials, apparatus and travel costs.The closing dates for applications will be: autumn term - Friday 4 October and spring term - Friday 17 January. Notification of the outcome of applications will be in writing towards the end of the term in which applications are considered. Applicants should note that the committee will not award grants retrospectively, i.e. for expenses incurred before the decisions of the committee are known. Here and Now: improving the presentation of contemporary science and technology in museums and science centres 21-23 November 1996This special conference aims to identify strategies to improve the presentation of contemporary science and technology in science museums, science centres and visitor centres. The programme will take a wide variety of perspectives, culminating in a half-day focusing on the challenge of presenting contemporary biotechnology. Speakers include Philip Campbell, editor of Nature, Wolf Peter Fehlhammer, director of the Deutsches Museum, Oliver Morton, editor of Wired, and Susan Greenfield from the Department of Pharmacology, Oxford University.
