The three Ps (polymer possessed people)

Exciting times for scientists at IC with an interest in polymers lie ahead. Triggered by new appointments in the Department of Chemistry and by the creation of the School of Medicine (ICSM), PolyNET was founded in September.

PolyNet is intended to provide a focus for polymer science activities College-wide and to act as a guiding interface with the industrial world.

IC now represents polymer science in unparalleled depth and breadth in the UK. The expertise available in the College ranges from polymer synthesis, characterisation and catalysis right through to micro- and macroscopic bulk and surface properties of polymers including applications such as artificial knee joints and heart valves.

At the first meeting six departments and a centre were represented, Biology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Centre for Composite Materials, Materials, Mechanical Engineering and ICSM.

PolyNET is open to anyone interested in polymer-related research. More detailed information, updates and timetables can be found on the world wide web under http://www.ch.ic.ac.uk /law/polynet. A booklet is also available on request. Informal enquiries should be directed to Dr Robert Law (0171-594 852) or Dr Joachim Steinke(0171-594 5852), in the Department of Chemistry, South Kensington.
