More electronic journals for IC

Web access to Elsevier's Science Direct service is now available to all members of the College, offering more than a thousand full text electronic journals and a database by which to search them.

The journals, mainly at research level, include student favourites such as the Trends in and Current Opinion in series. Although subject areas covered are mainly science, technology and medicine, as well as business and social sciences, Poetics and the Journal of Medieval History are also available.

Journals have been indexed alphabetically and by subject groups, with titles available in full text indicated by a green icon in the index. Tables of contents may be viewed or abstracts located by keyword searching across all titles and years. Links to full text articles can be downloaded in PDF format or read on screen.

The service is funded by a library subscription and is free at the point of use. The subscription includes copyright fees for the use of downloaded articles in College work, i.e. non-commercial use.

Multiple copies for class teaching, course packs and reading lists are covered. This only applies to articles retrieved from the electronic journal and not to photocopies from the print version, even where the same article is involved.

Authentication for Elsevier's Science Direct is by IP address registration. Go to www.sciencedirect.com and click on the green 'group-wide login' button to gain access to the search screen.

Email eis@ic.ac.uk for help using Science Direct or contact ccshelp@ic.ac.uk if technical difficulties arise in accessing the site. To join an email list to receive updates on electronic library resources, send a message to majordomo@ic.ac.uk with the words 'Subscribe database-news' in the body of the message.

Ideas for extra features or development of the service should be emailed to j.yeadon@ic.ac.uk.
