The Jameel Fund for Infectious Disease Research and Innovation

Thanks to a generous grant from Community Jameel to support research collaborations with Saudi universities, Imperial have set up the Jameel Fund for Infectious Disease Research and Innovation.  We now have up to 250,000 USD available to launch Round 2 of the Fund in partnership with King Abdulaziz University. KAU is the highest ranked university in the Arab region (THE, World University Rankings 2021) with a growing reputation for innovative scientific research.

Awards are available for essential research into the Transmission and Pathogenesis of Coronaviruses and other Respiratory Viruses.  This can include projects relating to prevention, diagnosis, treatment and understanding of these viruses. This funding opportunity is open to all College Faculties for proposals of up to 65,000 USD and we are inviting proposals for:

  2. Imperial Projects with KAU Partnership (Award Type 2 )

Up to 250,000 USD is available to seed-fund projects up to 65,000 USD each and 3-6 months in duration.  The call is open to applications from academic and honorary clinical staff at Imperial College. Fellows may apply but must have their salary in place for the duration of the award.

Applicants should be in a position to start the project no later than 1st October 2022.  No new staff should be recruited but costs are allowed for existing staff.  Only direct research costs are eligible, indirect and estates costs are not permissible.  Awards will be distributed internally based on 100% direct costs but excluding estates and infrastructure technicians, investigator time, and other indirect costs.
