R-type lectin CRD sequence alignment

Alignment of R-type CRD sequences.  The sequences are categorized as 1) Mannose receptor family and 2) Plant toxins, bacterial hydrolases and eukaryotic GalNAc transferases.  Each block of sequences represents one of the three lobes of the R-type CRD.  Regions of secondary structure are indicated above the alignment and coloured to correspond with the structure of the R-type CRD from murine GalNAc transferase 1, left.  Beta-strands are numbered S1-S12 and highlighted in blue.
 
Cysteine residues are highlighted in yellow.  Residues in ricin that interact with galactoside ligands, and the conserved equivalents in other R-type lectins, are highlighted in magenta: one aromatic residue stacks against the galactose ring, while hydrophilic residues make hydrogen bonds to the hydroxyl groups.  Residues in the third lobe of the macrophage mannose receptor R-type CRD that interact with 4-sulpho-N-acetylgalactosamine, and the conserved equivalents in other family members, are highlighted in blue: an aromatic residue stacks against the galactose ring, and hydrogen bonds contribute to sulphate recognition.
