Children in Africa

The Schistosomiasis Control Initiative at Imperial College (SCI) is a charitable institution. Donations are processed by 'Imperial College London' (HMRC ref. X2361) and 'Imperial College Trust' (Charity No. 273071) on behalf of SCI, thus removing all administration costs.

Donations processed by both Imperial College London and Imperial College Trust are eligible for gift aid and are tax deductible in the UK.  If you wish to make a donation from outside the UK and wish to know if it is tax deductible in your country of residence, please read about giving from outside the UK

Processing donations through the College is safe and secure. If you would like to make a donation you can do so in a number of ways.

100% of your gift will reach SCI!

Ways to give

CDD in Mali

Several of the country programmes that SCI works with are in part or fully funded by donations. You can be a part of helping those who suffer from and are at risk of NTDs in sub-Saharan Africa by finacially supporting the work of SCI, which you can do through the options found on our donation page.

Fundraising ideas

It is important for us to improve awareness of NTDs and to generate momentum and political will. Fundraising is a great way of spreading the word about, and introducing your families, peers and colleagues to NTDs. Short of fundraising ideas? Contact Alix Weldon (a.weldon@imperial.ac.uk) and she will help you find something that works for you. Here are some ideas to get you started:

Spread the word!

The easiest way to support SCI is to tell everyone you know about our vital work. Take a minute to join our online community of supporters where you can share stories and videos about the way we're transforming lives in sub-Saharan Africa.

Help our community grow:

Help us with fundraising!

It costs just 30pence/50cents to treat a child with schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminth infections. That means that if you can convince 20 people to donate £25 each, your donation will pay for the treatment of an entire school!

Corporate relationships

Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) is an incredibly emotive cause to fundraise for.  For every £10 raised 20 children will receive treatment to rid their bodies of these parasites.  Please bear us in mind should you have a 'Charity of the Year' programme or wish to develop a partnership with a charity.

Why work with us

Doctor and patientSCI strongly believes in the power of partnerships and collaborative efforts.  Together we can identify, design and implement an alliance that leverages your strengths on behalf of all people infected with schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminths.

How to work with us

SCI recognises the private sector as an essential partner if we hope to achieve the goals of elimination and control of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) set by the World Health Organization (The London Declaration Against Neglected Tropical Diseases 2012) by 2020.

Company Involvement

If you are reading this then clearly you believe your company is part of a much bigger picture.  Community and social responsibility is part of your company's DNA.  SCI offers your company a unique opportunity to be part pf one of the most cost-effective ways currently available to improve the lives of the world's poor, the people without a voice (World Health Organization).  Involvement can take the form of affinity marketing, adopting us as your 'Charity of the Year', strategic partnerships and sponsorship.  Contact us and we can map out a plan (Alexandra Weldon, a.weldon@imperial.ac.uk).

Strategic Partnerships

Strategic partnerships offer an exciting way to link our two organisations objectives and achieve results.  SCI can help you to meet your key performance indicators (KPIs) and achieve your key corporate and social responsibility goals.

Employee Engagement

Fundraising at work is about having a bit of fun in the office, factory or commercial outlet, with the reward of knowing you are changing the course of a child's life for the better.

It is not just a great way to build team spirit and improve morale but also allows your employees to help make a difference - with the support of their employer.  Often companies will match any money raised through staff fundraising activities, so check with your HR or Community Team whether they do.

Gifts in kind

Money is not the only thing your business can give.  SCI welcomes gifts that support our core aim to control and eliminate schistosomiais and soil-transmitted helminths from sub-Saharan Africa and Yemen.

If your business can donate items or services that directly contribute to our work overseas, for example, diagnostic equipment, vehicles, staff travel, office and field equipment, we would like to explore opportunities with you.  Or, perhaps your business can donate gifts that directly contribute to our fundraising in the UK, for example, providing prizes or a desirable venue for fundraising events.  Please email Alexandra Weldon (a.weldon@imperial.ac.uk) to discuss any ideas you may have.
