Who should attend
Staff and postgraduates who need to acquire knowledge and practical skills to prepare shipments of dangerous goods for transport by air correctly.
This course will be delivered as a webinar over 2 days, consisting of 4 one-hour sessions per day.
Though the course centres on achieving International Air Transport Association (IATA) accreditation for shipping infectious substances by air, much of the subject material covered is similarly applicable to shipping by other modes of transport such as road and any variations are normally covered during the course. The course would therefore also be of value to those who routinely ship infectious substances by road within the UK and Europe. There will be an ‘open book’ exam at the end of the course.
Please note that the qualification is valid for two years. Individuals must ensure that they re-qualify before their certificates expire.
Topics covered include:
- Classification - Infectious substances Categories A and B, patient specimens, biological products and exceptions to the Regulations
- Packing requirements
- Marking and labelling
- Packaging testing
- Postal regulations
- Emergency response
