Wear is inevitable in most assembled engineering structures due to chemical and mechanical interaction of the bearing surfaces of the bodies in contact. Thus, for maximizing the service life and the strength of mechanical components, a knowledge of wear behaviour is required to allow for suitable selection of materials and the efficient design of components.

Over the years, we have been developing accurate non-linear contact algorithms within our computational suite of BEM codes to predict the nonlinear behaviour of Wear in engineering materials.
