My experience in Canada has been incredible and I would fully recommend the exchange program to all future students.

The chemistry department at UBC was excellent and it was really nice to have more independence over my own research whilst I was there. I learnt many new techniques from the group I worked in and everyone was very welcoming.  The University of British Columbia had some amazing views and was situated right next to both a park and a beach, so there was always something to do close to campus after work. I loved being able to walk from residence to the beach in about 15 minutes! Vancouver is a vibrant, exciting city with a wide range of activities and tourist attractions. Some of the trip highlights were visiting Vancouver Island as well as climbing Grouse mountain and seeing the lumberjack show! Vancouver has a really easy to use public transport network so getting to good spots for hiking and mountain climbing was never that difficult or expensive. Overall living in Vancouver is cheaper than London, eating out and fast food are certainly much cheaper and more abundant however the prices at supermarkets are more expensive and similar to London prices. The social activities arranged by the RA’s at the student accommodation were fun and a good welcome the university.
