Information for the 2020–21 academic year

Updated 10 September 2020

If you're joining us for the first time in autumn 2020, we understand that you will have questions about how the disruption caused by COVID–19 will change our operations and processes for the 2020–21 academic year.

Inevitably, we have had to make some changes to ensure that we can continue to keep our students and staff safe through the pandemic. But we want to reassure you that we are doing all we can to ensure that you receive the best possible academic and student experience this autumn – you'll find more information about that below.

If you’re a returning student please visit our current students COVID-19 information pages – they have more specific information for you.

What to expect in autumn 2020

We’re currently making plans for our academic and student experience in two scenarios:

  • under partial COVID restrictions (this is the scenario we expect will apply at Imperial in autumn 2020); and
  • under full COVID restrictions (if we need to return to lockdown)

See the boxes below for links to information on both scenarios and how they will apply to lots of different aspects of student life at the College. These range from accommodation, your learning experience and extracurricular activities to amenities, library services and how we’re planning to keep you safe at Imperial.

We will continue to expand this information as soon as we have more updates so please keep checking back.

Your learning experience

Your  teaching, research and training will start on schedule in autumn 2020 and will be a combination of on-campus (in-person) and remote (online). We call this ‘multi-mode’ delivery.
