From Sci-fi to Sci-fact - Imperial PhD Scholars' Symposium 2016

In the past decades and centuries, scientists were able to throw off the yoke of established knowledge and break new ground, in order to make a mark on their particular field. As our knowledge has advanced as a species and the basics of many of these fields have been refined over and over, eminent scientists have expressed the view that science has somehow “finished”, or has succeeded in laying the foundations for understanding the world we find ourselves in. However, history has proven these assertions spectacularly wrong, without fail!

So, which contemporary scientific facts are currently under scrutiny, and where might the next revolutions lie? What are the burgeoning areas of engineering, science and medicine?  Is today’s science-fiction tomorrow’s science-fact?

The Imperial College Scholars PhD Symposium 2016 presents international speakers from a diverse range of fields, and a wealth of graduate student research, to explore these questions. Do you want a glimpse of the possibilities that get scientists excited?  Do you want to listen to the predictions for the next big changes and innovations, in the 21st century and beyond?  If so, this is the event to attend!

Date: Friday 27 May 2016
Venue: G16 and seminar rooms 120-122, Sir Alexander Fleming Building, South Kensington Campus
