The level of tuition fees you are liable for is based on your fee status, which we assess in accordance with the UK's Education (Fees and Awards) regulations (2007) and their subsequent amendments.

These regulations are set by the UK Governement and are subject to period amendments. 

Please note: we will not assess your fee status until we have received a formal application from you.

EU/EEA students

The Government has confirmed that EU students who begin a course in the 2020–21 academic year (until the end of July 2021) will be eligible to pay the same fee as Home students and have access to student finance for the duration of their course, as long as they meet certain requirements which are unchanged from previous years. This includes students who begin the course remotely.

Students from the EU, other EEA countries and/or Switzerland starting a course on or after 1 August 2021 will no longer be eligible for the Home fee rate and so will be charged the Overseas fee. Please note we do not expect this to apply to Irish students or students with Citizens Rights benefitting from Citizens’ Rights under the EU Withdrawal Agreement, EEA EFTA Separation Agreement or Swiss Citizens’ Rights Agreement respectively.

Assessing your fee status

 When we receive your application we will make an initial decision on your fee status based on the information you have given us.

If we do not have enough information to make a decision then we may ask you to complete a fee status questionnaire and supply additional evidence so that we can make our assessment.

You do not need to complete a questionnaire unless we ask you to do so.

Requesting a change in fee status

‌If you have been classed as an Overseas student and you feel that this is incorrect, you can ask to have this reviewed. 

To request a change in fee status please submit a copy of the fee status questionnaire, together with any additional evidence you may have, to the appropriate Admissions team.

You can either scan and email the questionnaire, or return it by post.

If you disagree with an assessment we have made after receiving your fee status questionnaire then you should complete and return a fee status appeal form with additional supporting documentary evidence.  This procedure is for applicants only.

Please note that it is not normally possible to amend your fee status once you have registered as a student and started your degree at Imperial, so you should contact us as soon as possible if you feel our assessment is not correct.

Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQs)

The Government does not provide funding to institutions for UK and EU students who are studying for a qualification that is at an equivalent or lower level to one that they have already been awarded – these are referred to as Equivalent or Lower Qualifications (ELQs).

The change means that institutions may charge fees at a higher rate for such students.

Some subjects, including many at Imperial, are exempt: science, technology, engineering, mathematics and certain healthcare professions.

When we receive your application we will assess whether you are an ELQ student or not, as well as what your overall fee status is (see above).

The College will decide what charges will apply to ELQ candidates in subject areas affected by this change.

If your application is successful and you are liable for the higher fee then further information will be made available to when you receive your offer.
