International Suburban Rail Benchmarking Group
ISBeRG is an international benchmarking group for suburban railway operators. Founded in 2009, the group is based on the experience of public transport benchmarking gained by the RTSC since 1994, through the successful management of the CoMET and Nova metro benchmarking groups and the International Bus Benchmarking Group (IBBG).
The primary objectives of ISBeRG are to:
• Share knowledge and identify best practices in a confidential environment
• Support members in achieving their operational, environmental and strategic goals
• Develop systems of measures for use by management and to establish railway best practice
• Prioritise areas for improvement and support decision-making
The group is owned and run by the members themselves and managed by the Railway and Transport Strategy Centre (RTSC) at Imperial College London. The main activities of the group include the collection, analysis and reporting of a comprehensive set of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), in-depth case studies to identify and share transferable best practices, twice-yearly meetings hosted by member railways and a secure website to share to facilitate information sharing.
Fifteen suburban railways serving fourteen cities around the world participate in ISBeRG: Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Barcelona), Queensland Rail (Brisbane), DSB S-Tog (Copenhagen), PRASA Metrorail (Cape Town), MTR (Hong Kong), Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad (New York), London Overground, Metro Trains Melboune, S-Bahn Munich, NSB (Oslo), BART (San Francisco), CPTM (Sao Paulo), Sydney Trains and JR East (Tokyo).
