AB - Damping of vibrations is often required to improve both the performances and the integrity of engiengineering structures, e.g. gas turbine blades. In [24] some of the authors have proposed a new function to control the multimode vibrations of a fixed beam. In this article this methodology has been extended to a rotating cantilever beam. To develop an effective control strategy, and optimize the placement of the active piezoelectric elements in terms of vibrations amplitude reduction, a procedure has been developed and a new analytical solution has been proproposed. The results obtained have been corroborated by comparison with the results from a multi-physics finite elements package (COMSOL) and data from other models available in the literature.
