Below is a timetable of buildings and works at the White City Campus north and south site, including those already complete as well as planned construction activity for future buildings.
The exact dates of projected works are subject to changes and alterations, and for the very latest information, Imperial publishes a monthly round-up of detailed construction updates in the form of a pdf construction newsletter, which can be downloaded from the link on the left.
All building projects at the White City Campus are signed up to the Considerate Constructors Scheme to ensure that everything possible is being done to be good neighbours. These measures include monitoring noise, suppressing dust and ensuring that construction traffic arrives and leaves site in a considerate way.
Timeline of development
Sir Michael Uren Hub
Contractors ISG completed final landscaping works in December and fit-out of the building has commenced.
School of Public Health
The site for the School of Public Health is an empty plot on Wood Lane, next to the residential tower, Eighty-Eight Wood Lane. Enabling works for the new building began in January.
Current works involve site-wide utility and ground investigations, which began in January and are being delivered in phases. The hoardings around the site have also been refreshed.
College received detailed planning permission for 5,900 sq m of office space to develop a final plot on the north site - known as "Plot A" - in November 2018. What will be built on this plot is still under consideration, but the application ensures that the College can respond flexibly depending on future needs.
Pedestrian and cycle underpass
We are continuing our efforts to deliver the underpass between our north site and Latimer Road by working with the local boroughs, the Westway Trust and Network Rail. As discussions continue, the key outstanding issues are responsibility for management of the completed underpass and the planning application. College has appointed a contractor to carry out the pre-construction phase of work.
Contractors Western Building Systems are currently testing systems and completing finishing works in Block A on the Scale Space site. Several sections of Block A are now ready for fit out works.
In Block B, the installation of modular units is complete, and the contractors are now working on the roof and making the building watertight.
UKPN Electrical Substation
Two transformers for the new electrical substation were delivered in December. Located on Imperial land below the Westway, the substation will be operated by UK Power Networks and will provide future electrical capacity to the White City Campus and wider area.
Special arrangements were made to support the combined weight of almost 100 tonnes of the transformer and its delivery vehicle. Construction of the substation is progressing well toward its expected power-on date in early 2021.
Centre House is a forthcoming residential scheme set to provide over 500 new homes, some of which will be reserved for Imperial academics and students working at White City. The College is working with St James to progress this new development, which includes plans for a 10,000 sq ft exhibition space alongside office space and retail, leisure and community amenities. (EXPECTED TO OPEN 2024/2025)
