Molecular Sciences Research Hub
Enabling growth, impact and innovation: the vision for Chemistry at Imperial's White City Campus
About the MSRH
Imagine a future where your clothing monitors your vital signs for indications of disease, where your home reuses the carbon emissions it produces and where “artificial leaves” in your garden supply all your energy needs. The behaviour of molecules lies at the heart of these challenges. These advances are no longer the stuff of dreams – they represent what could realistically be achieved within twenty years by a vibrant community of chemists, working in partnership with other molecular sciences, the medical sector and engineering.
The Department of Chemistry at Imperial now has a unique opportunity to fulfil this strategy by the creation of a landmark facility, the Molecular Sciences Research Hub at Imperial’s new White City Campus. This centre will drive a new way of doing chemistry that transcends disciplinary and institutional boundaries in the search for solutions to some of the great challenges facing humanity. Due to open in late 2017, the Molecular Sciences Research Hub will be a hothouse of scientific discovery, an incubator of creativity and a transmitter of innovation.
The Molecular Sciences Research Hub at the White City Campus will be uniquely placed to benefit from the opportunities afforded by close proximity to:
- the Hammersmith Hospital Campus;
- research clusters in Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, Public Health and Data Science;
- European Institute of Innovation and Technology hubs in Climate, Digital and Healthy Living;
- the Translation & Innovation Hub (I-HUB), connected to and sharing services with the Molecular Science Research Hub, will house synergistic co-located laboratories with major technology partners, new start-ups and fast-growth technology companies.
