Summary

Cross wedge rolling is an innovative metal forming process with a wide application in manufacturing automotive stepped shafts due to its advantages of high material usage, high product efficiency and products' high quality. However, central cracks (cavity forms in the centre of the workpiece) as a main fracture type in CWR limits its application extending to airspace field. Therefore, this project aims to finding out the fracture mechanisms for central crack formation in CWR and propose a proper fracture criterion.
